$10K Women's Seed Grant Announced At Inaugural BioHive Women's Event
The $10,000 grant will be used to accelerate a “Women in Science and Technology Seminar Series” within industry.
On June 24, BioHive held their inaugural Women’s event sponsored by BD, BioMerieux, e4H Architects, Health Catalyst, Known Medicine, MarshMcLennan, Recursion, Seek Labs and JLL Realty. With 180 registrants from 54 companies, attendees packed over 200 STEM Kits in partnership with Utah STEM Action Center for elementary and middle school students, listened to a panel of women leaders in industry moderated by Heather Kirkby of Recursion Pharma, and enjoyed an evening of networking.
BioHive announced a $10,000 seed grant to accelerate a “Women in Science and Technology Seminar Series” within industry. The grant is to expand existing programs, create an industry wide series, incorporate start-ups and mentor young women in the life sciences and healthcare innovation sectors. An advisory committee has been formed and BioHive is thrilled to support this initiative in partnership with industry.
Some of the highlights of the event included:
- Over 180 people registered from 54 different companies and organizations.
Participants packed over 200 STEM Kits in partnership with the Utah Stem Action Center. The kits are now stuffed full of learning activities for elementary and middle school students to check out from local libraries this summer. - Heather Kirkby of Recursion moderated an incredible panel featuring Nina de Lacy, MD (Huntsman Mental Health Institute), Tami Door (Q Factor), Alison O’Mahony, PhD. (Recursion) and Tracy George (ARUP Labs)
- BioHive announced a $10,000 seed grant to accelerate a “Women in Science and Technology Seminar Series” within the industry. The purpose of this gift is to expand existing programs, create an industry wide series, incorporate start-ups and mentor and encourage the young women in the life science and healthcare innovation sector.
- An advisory committee with members from Health Catalyst, BD, Known Medicine, bioMérieux, ARUP Laboratories, University of Utah Health and Recursion has been formed and BioHive is thrilled to support this initiative in partnership with industry.
